Want to compete?

State Competitions

State competitons are run by FencingSA from approximately March to November each year.

Competitions are divided into categories

Under 11

Under 13

Under 15

Under 17 (cadet)

Under 20 (junior)

To be counted for these age categories, you take in to account the age you were on the 1st of January of the competition year. e.g. If you turn 17 on the 4th of January, you are still allowed to compete in Under 17 competitons for the remainder of that year.

Open (all ages and abilities)

Veteran (over 40)

Novice (open age, but you can only have been fencing for less than one year)

Intermediate (there are a number of things that can disqualify you from fencing in Intermediate tournaments, see here (http://www.fencingsa.org.au/documents/rules/categories.php) )

Team (three fencers make up a team. More more information, discuss with your coach)

For more information about local events, see http://www.fencingsa.org.au/calendar/index.php

National Competitions

The Australian Fencing Federation  runs national tournaments.

Each year there are four open national events, one junior national event, and one under 17 and 15 national event.

These are held in different cities around the country, and the hosts change from year to year. The national timetable is sometimes referred to informally as "the circut".
