Many of our top fencers went to Sydney over the weekend to compete in the Australian and Oceania Open National Championships.
Open Men's Foil: Michael Dzodzos (22nd), Michael Hoeller (47th) and Louis Ritchie 63rd. The gents also made up the SA foil team, and came 9th.
Open Women's Foil: Georgie Barratt (14th)
Open Men's Epee: Matteo Barcheisi (5th), Sam Blackman (14th), Alex Lovell (38th), Stuart Marshall (46th), Leighlan Doe (59th), Peter Demaria (76th). Peter had to leave early, so unfortunately we couldn't have two SA teams composed entirely of ASC members, but our team that did compete came a respectable =3rd.
Open Women's Epee: Ursula Menz (8th)
Open Men's Sabre: Russell Hartup (23rd), Matteo Barcheisi (27th)
A bit belatedley, congratulations also to the junior fencers who competed in the Junior National Championships in October!

Junior Women's Epee: Rachel Aistrope (12th)
Junior Men's Foil: Michael Dzodzos (29th), Henry Hondros (45th), Alex Davey (51st) Team result: 11th
Junior Women's Foil: Georgie Barratt (8th), Gulsara Kaplun (13th) Rachel Aistrope (15th) Team result: =3rd

Fencing SA School-Age Foil Team League
Over the last term, Ursula and Leon have organised and run a team league for school-age children from the fencing clubs and schools in SA. 10 teams registered and fenced a poule over 9 weeks. 7 of the teams had fencers who are members of the club (and we've had a few visitors since then, too!), and the club itself fielded two teams.
1st: Scotch A (undefeated!). 2nd: Adelaide Swords Club A. 3rd: Pembroke. 4th: Adelaide Hills Fencing Club. 5th: Marryatville High School. 6th: Glenunga A. 7th: Scotch B. 8th: Adelaide Swords Club B. 9th: St Johns. 10th: Glenunga B.
For more detailed results, check out the School Teams page .
Good luck to the teams, all of which have registered for the Knockout Challenge this term.

More media!
In addition to the stories atound AFF 2 (see 14 June, below), we had two more articles and a news story about fencers in our club.
Ursula Menz and Seri WIlson were photographed and interviewed by the Adversiter at the Robyn Chaplin, but I have been unable to locate an electrronic copy of the article. You'll just have to take my word for it that the photo was incredibly flattering and the quotations were accurate. Jahan Penny-Dirmi and Michael Dzodzos were in the Eastern Courier: http://eastern-courier-messenger.whereilive.com.au/news/story/fencing-rivalry-up-to-a-point/
Most excitingly, the ABC's kids news show, Behind the News, got in touch with the club about doing a story on fencing. About 15 of our juniors came to Scotch one afternoon last week and shot the following story: http://www.abc.net.au/btn/story/s3277521.htm
Looking good, everyone!

ASC will be running the canteen at the Robyn Chaplin national tournament on the June long weekend, and we are relying on donations of food from club members to help make it a success. Hot food is always a success, in the past we have made toasted sandwiches, baked potatoes with fillings, chilli con carne, curry and rice, as well as selling cakes, muffins, sports drinks and lollies (important for that pre-fence sugar hit!). If you would like to make a donation, please see a committee member at the club, or send us an email.
