President's Report

Welcome to our new members – many of whom joined after the kid’s beginner’s course! Term 3 is flying as this Saturday is week 9! Last Saturday was World Fencing Day and we celebrated it in Saturday morning classes. Thanks to all the fencers, coaches, families and friends who got involved to make it a fun morning.  

Congratulations to all the ASC fencers who participated in recent competitions and especially Tara Sehat Zadeh. Tara who only got back to fencing in 2024  made her national podium debut winning a bronze medal in the Veteran Women’s Epee Event.

2026 Veterans Challenge & 2026 Oceania Veterans Competition1-2 Aug, Canberra.

SA was well represented with CSFC's Pouyan Oshaghi winning gold in Mens Foil and Mixed Sabre and Darren Ferguson winning Bronze in Mens Epee. ASC's Helen Swan came 5th in Women's Epee and was part of the Bronze winning Women's Epee Team Yellow. Alison Wotherspoon came in 10th in Women’s Epee and was in the Silver winning Women's Epee Team Green along with ASC regular and CSFC fencer Nadine Ferguson who was 7th in Women's Epee. 

Term 4 Classes

The beginners 5 week course starts back this Saturday 17 October.

Membership

If you haven’t renewed your membership now is the time to do so as we are now offering half year memberships – please contact info@adelaideswordsclub.org.auto get the appropriate half year code. You still need to pay the full FSA licence fee as this is offered as a flat fee, but it does cover your insurance at the club and allows you to fence in competitions.Renew your membership here

The FSA Calendar for State and National competitions is now out for the rest of the year and can be accessed here

FSA U9 and U11 State Championship is on this Sunday 20 September. Although the registration for this event has already closed, you can still head to the Lights Sports and Community Centre to watch te little kids putting into action everything they've learnt in classes.

 Armourer’s Tip for September

For those who regularly attend fencing competitions, I highly recommend investing in your own basic testing equipment. Having reliable tools on hand means you can check your weapons on the side of the piste and avoid unnecessary weaponfailure cards.

The Adelaide Swords Club Committee would like to have a voice for our younger fencerson the committee. If you are a youth fencer who would like to have a say about what the club does, what you would like the club to do more or less of and may be interested in joining the committee in the future this is for you! Unexpected Foil

Why should epeeists have all the fun? On Wednesday 7 October from 7pm we are having a one touch foil-off. For the foilists it’s your chance to get a touch on those pesky epeeists and if you’ve never fenced foil what better time to give it a go for fun!

Adelaide Swords Club 90th Birthday party

We’re celebrating our 90th birthday and end of year on Sunday 6th December. Do you have any fun photos from the past that we could compile into a history of the club? Off-piste - social drinks

How good is fencing? How nice is a beer after fencing! We often have a post fencing catchup with optional beer on Wednesday nights at the Royal Oak on O’Connell Street.
