Congratulations to our ASC fencers who competed last weekend in the 2024/25 Australian and Oceania Cadet and Australian Youth Championships! Serena Yao finished 16th in the Australia and Oceania Cadet Women’s Epee and 29th in Australian Youth Girl’s Epee. In Australia and Oceania Cadet Women’s Foil Gabrina Guo came 16th and Sunday Skrabanich 18th and in the Australian Youth Girls Foil Gabrina Guo was 6th and Sunday Skrabanich 18th.

In the Australian Youth Girls Epee Salma Eladly came 30th and debuting in their first national competition Yarrah Basman 33rd and Aaliyah Basman 38th. We were also very proud that the SA team in the Australian Youth Girls Epee Teams event, who came 6th, consisted completely of ASC fencers – so well-done Aaliyah, Yarrah, Salma and Serena! Eddy Sinclair, who though technically is an AHFC fencer but is a regular part of our club, came 20th in Australia and Oceania Cadet Men’s Epee and 27th in the Australian Youth Boy’s Epee.

Congratulations also to coach Leon Thomas who was presented with his Australian Fencing Federation Life Membership at the 2024/25 Australian and Oceania Cadet and Australian Youth Championships. Leon was awarded this honour based on his many years of service to fencing in Australia. He started fencing in 1965 and went on to compete nationally for NSW and SA and internationally for Australia before moving into coaching. He also worked as Fencing Field of Play Supervisor at the Sydney 2000 Olympics. Leon is currently the Development Officer for the Oceania Fencing Confederation and continues to share his love of fencing as a coach working with fencers at club, state, national and international levels.
