Hello fencers and fencer families! This year is flying by; it’s spring and no longer dark on the way to fencing on Monday and Wednesday! Our membership is continuing to grow and there are a lot of fencers regularly on the pistes on Monday and Wednesday nights, as well during our Saturday morning classes.

AFC#1 Results

Congratulations to our ASC fencers, present as well as past and the SA fencers who are part of the ASC community, who competed last weekend in the Australian Fencing Circuit (AFC)#1 in Melbourne. Roshan Chandran, who spent many formative years at ASC, won Gold in Senior Men’s Epee, which is a brilliant outcome for SA fencing and congratulations Roshi on your success! In Veteran Men’s Epee congratulations Darren Ferguson on winning Gold in 50+ age group and coming 3^rd overall and Simon Hou coming 16^th. In Senior Women’s Epee Helen Swan came 49^th and Alison Wotherspoon 59^th. It was great to see Nadine Ferguson back on the piste in Veteran Women’s Epee where she came 14^th, Helen Swan 15^th and Alison Wotherspoon 24^th. Georgina Barratt came 10^th in the Senior Women’s Foil, Gabrina Guo 27^th and Mickey Dzodzos 26^th in Senior Men’s Foil.

ASC Events

Monday Night Youth Training

Coaches Myka and Oscar are continuing to run the youth session on Monday night from 6.30 - 7.30pm. All Saturday morning 10am and 11am class fencers are welcome to attend. It's free and a great way of getting more fencing in!

Adult Try Session and Beginner course

The next adult try session will be on Tuesday, 16 September and will be followed by a beginners' course on Tuesdays from 23 September to 14 October. Information is on our website. Let all those colleagues, friends and family who say they would love to try fencing know that this is a chance for them to do so!

Five Additional Training Nights – Tuesdays 16 September – 14 October.

These 5 x 90-minute sessions which include strength, conditioning, footwork, competition strategies and possibly some fencing, is aimed at teenage and adult fencers who are planning to compete at a state or national (AYC or AFC) level.

Senior coach Leon Thomas who will work with the fencers to increase their fitness and readiness to compete. The course is $50 and sessions are open to registered fencers from any club that is a member of FSA. Register at https://www.adelaideswordsclub.org.au/events/306451

FSA AGM and Call for Nominations for FSA Directors

FSA isseekingenthusiastic and dedicated members of the fencing community to join the Boardof Fencing South Australia Incorporated (FSA). Nominations are open for Directors; there are four elected positions available.They are looking for people with one or more of the following skillsets: Treasuring/accounting/book-keeping, Risk, policy and governanceand Communications

Nominations are not for any specific position; nominations and elections are held for “Directors”,then specific positions (e.g. President, Treasurer, Secretary) are decided by the Directors at the first Board meeting following the AGM.
